Location: Old Parliament House, 18 King George Terrace, Parkes, Canberra, ACT, Ngunnawal Country

The National Health Promotion Symposium is back for 2024.

The symposium, hosted by the peak national organisation for health promotion, the Australian Health Promotion Association, and supported by the Australian Government, is not to be missed. The event will bring together health promotion practitioners from across the country to hear from thought leaders and participate in a dialogue on the conditions that shape health and well-being for our people, places, and planet.

Your Host

The Australian Health Promotion Association is the only professional association in Australia specifically for people interested or involved in health promotion practice, policy, research, and study. For more than 30 years, AHPA has sought to advance the health of all people in Australia through leadership, advocacy, and workforce development for health promotion practice, research, evaluation and policy.

AHPA aims to:

  • support the professional development of members, facilitating knowledge exchange through the provision of high-quality publications and opportunities to network and build knowledge;

  • contribute to discussion, debate and decision-making on health promotion policy, practice and research and advocate for evidence-informed approaches; and

  • make recommendations regarding health promotion standards and practice and the training of health promotion practitioners.

Symposium 2024 theme

The theme for this year’s event is Shaping the Future of Health Promotion. Aligned with AHPA’s strategic directions, the theme emphasises the critical role of the health promotion sector in achieving a healthy, equitable Australia. Recognising the global and local imperative for bold health promotion action, which is needed now more than ever, the event will focus on key pillars of equity, innovation, workforce, and collaboration.

Who should attend?

We invite both AHPA members and non-members to participate. If you are a health promotion practitioner, policy maker, academic, researcher or student, we would love to see you there. If you are interested in health equity and want to contribute to action that ensures the health promotion profession and discipline are at the heart of Australia’s roadmap towards a healthy, safe and sustainable future, then this event is for you. But it doesn’t matter if you promote health as part or all of your work, you are welcome. If you would like to reconnect with health promotion friends and colleagues and/or develop new professional and personal networks, register for Symposium 2024.
